Prince2® and Agile in the Real World

Prince2 is ubiquitous and Agile delivery processes are gaining in popularity. One or the other can't be avoided. But there are no detailed and real life descriptions available on how to make integration such as this actually work.

This breakout session is an experience based expose of what you will encounter if you try to use Prince2® and Agile methods together in our organisation based on a ground up implementation.

Specifically we will show you:

• How Agile can actually make Prince2 more formal.

• What integration between the methodologies is possible.

• The direct mapping of process rather than one-to-one mapping of documents which is where most organisations stop.

• How integrated scheduling in an enterprise environment is possible with both agile and traditional projects, even though the enterprise tools are not compatible with agile scheduling.

• Designing the delivery in stages where agile expects iterations.

• How to resource an agile project in a matrix organization where departments have very different visions.

• Estimating in an agile manner while still providing the organisation with financial information generally required at the start of every project.

• How to use Prince2 and Agile in an organisation that has a central set of information systems.

We show the successful integration of Prince2 and agile which has allowed the business and IT to deliver rapidly.

Ryan Darby, PMO Manager, SunSuper

Ryan manages the PMO for Sunsuper and has been responsible for rolling out Prince2® and heavily involved in the move to agile methods using SCRUM. This resulted in the PMO needing to find solutions to many issues created by using both these approaches in one organisation.

Ryan is a career PMO Manager with a project management and development background.

Ryan has worked for both consulting companies and within finance and mining corporations, allowing for an approach to agile that takes into account the theory as well as the detail those left behind after the consult leaves to be used.

Ryan holds a Master in Project Management and Master of Science in Computer Science allowing him a perspective of both the project management and delivery approaches to be discussed, as well as a PMP and SCPM.
